Class Preparation

There is an unfortunate ethos around exercise and fitness that it is okay to workout grubby because it is an inherently grubby business. Nothing could be farther from the truth! How offensive to your training partner it would be to be smelly during exercise. From the teacher's perspective, why would he or she want to give personal adjustments to a slimy body?

Be aware that your skin picks up all manner of chemicals, dusts, oils, and other particles from the environment. Your skin is a vital organ of respiration, detoxification, and assimilation. Please consider that you need to rid your skin of accumulated scum, which by the way makes a great food for bacteria, so your pores can process fresh clean sweat only during your workout.

  • No perfumes, colognes, body lotions (esp. scented), or scented laundry products. These chemical scents are hard to disperse and make some people very sick.
  • Clothing must be free of animal fur and dander. Cat dander is a particularly dangerous toxin for some allergy sufferers.
  • We train in bare feet unless there is a condition which requires coverage.
  • Maintain your shoes, keys, handbags and other personal belongings in a neat orderly fashion.
  • Do not eat too much before class. Tea, water, a sport drink, or a light carb snack are recommended.
  • You may bring your own mat or one will be provided. Please dress seasonably and modestly.
